The substance grayanotoxin contained in bitter honey causes poisoning. Symptoms include; heart rhythm disorder, burning in the throat, redness of the skin and eye, nausea, vomiting, itching in the mouth and nose, increase in saliva, blurred vision or temporary blindness, headache and rotation, diarrhea, low blood pressure, loss of consciousness. It is used in folk medicine for stomach pain, sugar in intestinal disorders and high blood pressure. It is recommended not to consume more than one teaspoon.
